The important shift in eSIM is not simply that a plastic SIM can disappear. Remote provisioning changes where connectivity can be discovered, purchased, activated and managed—and therefore who can package it into a customer journey.
This brief examines the commercial implication: as eSIM adoption grows and partner tooling becomes easier to integrate, value can move from the SIM itself toward distribution, experience, bundling and customer ownership.
THE SIGNAL
GSMA reported in May 2026 that global eSIM smartphone penetration was about 5% at the end of 2025, expected to reach 10% by the end of 2026 and double again in 2027. It also said eSIM smartphone connections are expected to outnumber removable-SIM connections by 2030. The direction matters commercially: a larger addressable device base lowers the friction for digital-only connectivity journeys.
GSMA also highlights a gap between consumer awareness and operator-led activation. That suggests distribution is not automatically captured by the traditional channel. When awareness grows faster than commercial activation, other digital journeys can become important discovery and conversion points.
WHY DISTRIBUTION CHANGES

A business can buy, distribute and manage eSIM packages without building a mobile network or provisioning stack itself.
The underlying connectivity can sit behind another brand, shifting customer experience, positioning and acquisition toward the distribution partner.
Connectivity can become an attach product within travel, workforce, device, financial-service or other digital propositions rather than a standalone purchase.
PUBLIC MARKET EVIDENCE
Airalo's public partner materials illustrate how far the channel model has evolved. Its partner offering publicly describes API and SDK integrations, a reseller platform, co-branding, affiliate models and a white-label e-commerce architecture. Its developer documentation describes both sandbox and production workflows for API integration.
This is not evidence of an Evolaric relationship with Airalo. It is evidence that a major eSIM provider is productizing distribution itself—making reseller, embedded and branded routes easier for external businesses to operate.
COMMERCIAL THESIS
The winning channel may be the one that reaches the customer when connectivity becomes relevant—before travel, during onboarding, at device activation or inside an existing service journey.
Travel readiness, workforce mobility, device activation or uninterrupted digital access can be easier value propositions than a standalone data allowance.
Discovery, device compatibility, installation, top-up and support are part of the commercial product. A poor activation journey can erase the advantage of digital provisioning.
The strongest reseller case may exist where customer acquisition already happens for another reason, allowing connectivity to increase value per customer without requiring a separate acquisition engine.
WHAT EVOLARIC WOULD TEST
We would test the target customer and moment of need, channel acquisition economics, attach rate, gross margin after support and payment costs, activation completion, refund and failure rates, destination mix, repeat purchase behavior and the operational boundary between distributor and underlying provider.
We would also test whether the proposition has a reason to exist beyond price. A durable route to market should ideally have customer access, bundling advantage, brand trust, workflow integration or another defensible distribution edge.
